Ner Tamid Greenspring Valley Synagogue, in the heart of the Baltimore Jewish Community, is a vibrant Modern Orthodox congregation which welcomes a broad array of identifying Jewish families, and offers them exciting programming to grow religiously and spiritually.

Ner Tamid has a rich history in the Baltimore area. In the 1950s the Ner Tamid congregation was created as a merger between two smaller Baltimore shuls. Under the spiritual leadership of Rabbi Herschal Leibowitz z"l, Ner Tamid grew from a couple dozen families to over 600 member families. To accommodate this growth, a beautiful new building was constructed to accommodate a large sanctuary, social hall, Beis Medresh, youth room, Library and 10 class rooms.

The beautiful main sanctuary seats over 500 men and women. The social hall, where we hold Shabbos kiddushes, Seudot Shlisheet, and other simchot, from bar and bat mitzvah luncheons to weddings, accommodates seating for over 300.

In 1986, after the retirement of Rabbi Leibowitz zl, the shul was fortunate to bring in  Rabbi Chaim Landau. Besides minyanim and regular classes, our Shul sponsors special events, such as Shabbatonim with visiting Scholars-in-Residence, a full schedule of youth activities, lectures on political issues and religious topics, and instructive and inspiring programs related to the land of Israel.

After serving for 25 years, our beloved Rabbi Chaim Laudau has elected to retire. As Rabi Emeritus, he remains a part of the shul, and continues as a community activist, where he encourages the support for Israel, the feeding of the hungry, and the comfort of the ill and the aged. He is a also a teacher at local Jewish Days schools, including the Krieger-Schechter Middle School and the Shoshana S. Cardin Community High School.

While the shul conducts its search for a new Rabbi, we welcome Rabbi Dr. Avidan Milevsky as our Interim Rabbi.

Our commitment to the Modern Orthodox movement embraces the acceptance of all facets of our religion and passes no judgment on religious observance. We welcome all to join us.

The synagogue is situated on the block between Lincoln Ave. and Pimlico Road south of Shellydale Drive. The main entrance to the shul is located on Lincoln Ave., which can be reached by turning onto Shellydale Drive from Greenspring Ave. The office and Montessori school are at the rear of the shul, which is at 6214 Pimlico Road. Note that many of the streets in the neighborhood are one-way (Lincoln: south, Pimlico: north, Taney: west). You can reach the office from the main entrance by proceeding through the parking lot to the back of the building.
